Washington Alloy 309L stainless steel mig welding wire works well for joining stainless steel to carbon or mild steel.  It is often used in welding AISI 309 and other chromium grades of stainless.  309L stainless is excellent for buttered passes or overlay work.  It may be used for welding 304 clad stainless steel.
